To my knowledge, Australia ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) treaty in December 1990, but it has (thankfully) not yet been incorporated into Australian law.

Under the new Scottish law, the National Health Service will appoint a “named person” for every Scottish child up to five years old by 2016. The government guardian overseeing each child will have massive powers — some critics are already referring to it as "Big Brother" — to share information on the child with other bureaucracies and even to intervene in family decisions without the consent of parents. After age five, responsibility over the child would go to local authorities, and analysts say teachers would likely become the “overseers” of children’s development until the age of 18.
It is absolutely vital that the Australian parliament never ratify this insidious UN treaty. We can’t allow UN foreign interference in Australian law and we certainly can’t allow this treaty to undermine parent’s rights to raise their children in a manner consistent with their own values.
The same UN General Assembly recently elected China, Cuba, Russia, and Saudi Arabia to the UN Human Rights Council. These dictatorships will take their new seats on January 1, 2014.
It’s about time to get Australia out of the United Nations and get the UN out of this country.
