That snow outside is what global warming looks like
Dec 20, 2010 – George Monbiot: Unusually cold winters may make you think scientists have got it all wrong. But the data reveal a chilling truth.

No More Snow in England Say Global Warmists

At last, some real hope.
Researchers have discovered a stunning new process that takes the energy from coal without burning it - and removes virtually all of the pollution.
The clean coal technique was developed by scientists at The Ohio State University, with just $5 million in funding from the federal government, and took 15 years to achieve.
“We’ve been working on this for more than a decade,” Liang-Shih Fan, a chemical engineer and director of OSU’s Clean Coal Research Laboratory, told FoxNews.com, calling it a new energy conversion process. “We found a way to release the heat from coal without burning.”
The process removes 99 percent of the pollution from coal, which some scientists link to global warming. Coal-burning power plants produced about one-third of America’s carbon dioxide total in 2010, or about 2.3 billion metric tons, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Fan discovered a way to heat coal, using iron-oxide pellets for an oxygen source and containing the reaction in a small, heated chamber from which pollutants cannot escape. The only waste product is therefore water and coal ash - no greenhouse gases. As an added benefit, the metal from the iron-oxide can be recycled.
“Oxidation” is the chemical combination of a substance with oxygen. Contrast this with old-fashioned, coal-fired plants, which use oxygen to burn the coal and generate heat. This in turn makes steam, which turns giant turbines and sends power down electric lines.
The main by-product of that old process - carbon dioxide, known chemically as CO2 - is released through smokestacks into the earth’s atmosphere.
And they did it with only $5 million in funding.
Just imagine what these squints could come up with if they had some read R&D budgets. Instead, gov’ts everywhere tax CO2 emissions, raise billions upon billions, redistribute the money and yet the average citizen gets’ screwed with higher electricity prices with zero environmental benefit.

Al Gore will be pissed.
With the Kansas State Board of Education preparing to vote on new science standards this year, the House Education Committee has introduced a bill asking schools to include evidence against climate change in science classes.
House Bill 2306, introduced last week, says science classes must “provide information to students of scientific evidence which both supports and counters a scientific theory or hypothesis.”
The bill says instruction about “scientific controversies” should be objective and include “both the strengths and weaknesses of such scientific theory or hypothesis.” The only controversy identified in the bill is “climate science.”
No hearings have been scheduled yet for the bill.

That’s around $1.34 trillion AUD
Germany's transition to renewable energy may cost up to 1 trillion euros ($1.34 trillion) in the next two decades, the environment minister said on Wednesday, piling pressure on his opponents to back plans to cap power price rises before the election.
With an eye on the September vote, Peter Altmaier, one of conservative Chancellor Angela Merkel's most trusted ministers, has outlined plans to rein in subsidies for renewable power which have pushed up consumers' electricity bills.
However, his plans may be doomed as the opposition Social Democrats (SPD) and Greens have reservations and could block legislation in the Bundesrat upper house
"The costs of our energy reform and restructuring of energy provision could amount to around 1 trillion euros by the end of the 2030s," Altmaier told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.
"We have maybe our last big chance to lay the right foundations to make this a success. That means the energy switch must be economically justifiable and must be affordable."
Soon after Japan's Fukushima disaster in 2011, Merkel set out ambitious targets for green energy and accelerated the phaseout of nuclear plants.
Renewables are due to account for 35 percent of German power in 2020 and 80 percent by 2050.
Absolute insanity.

I previewed this Ecotard protest back on 12th February.
"Forward on Climate" Rally: More Than 35,000 Strong March on Washington for Climate Action
Washington, D.C., February 17, 2013 – Today, during President’s Day weekend, more than 35,000 people are marching to the President's doorstep to support immediate action to contain climate change. People from more than 30 states across the country whose land, homes and health are being threatened by the climate crisis, as well as students, scientists, indigenous community members and many others are participating in this largest climate rally in U.S. history.
The weather in Washington D.C. dipped below 30 degrees Fahrenheit (about -2C) forcing the assorted idiots to shiver while listening to speeches warning that the icebergs at the North pole were melting. Again.
Finally they all went home, leaving behind trash and not much else.

Outstanding interview from a few years ago by the late Michael Crichton.
Crichton graduated Harvard Medical School, was a published scientist and author, and was a fellow at the Jonas Salk Institute before becoming a Hollywood writer/producer.
His essay, Why Politicized Science is Dangerous, is a MUST READ.

I shiver just looking at how cold and depressing the Russian village of Oymyakon is.
I’m guessing that Global Warming isn’t much of issue here…
Spare a thought for those living in a Russian hamlet where temperatures can plummet to -71C, so cold even planes cannot land there in winter.
The valley of Oymyakon in northeast Russia is known as the 'Pole of Cold' and with an average January temperature of -50C, it is no wonder the village is the coldest permanently inhabited settlement in the world.
This is the lowest recorded temperature for any permanently inhabited location on Earth and the lowest temperature recorded in the Northern Hemisphere.

I first blogged about this back on 5 November 2011 – and unlike ‘Global Warming’, there are real dangers from the heavens.
Mind you, it didn’t stop dopey progressive commentator’s like CNN’s Deb Feyerick asking if an approaching asteroid, which passed by Earth yesterday, “is an example of, perhaps, global warming?”
Author, H L Mencken best sums up the current AGW state of play:
“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”

A group of celebrities are pushing for President Barack Obama to do more to address climate change over the next four years.
Alec Baldwin, Morgan Freeman, Susan Sarandon and Woody Harrelson are among the stars who've signed a letter — published Monday by the Sierra Club — asking Obama to prioritise the issue.
WASHINGTON DC - Today the Sierra Club released a letter from 30 notable entertainment and environmental leaders, calling on President Obama to cement his legacy by addressing climate disruption during his second term.
In a letter to the President, the group wrote, “Your legacy as 44th president of the United States rests firmly on your leadership on climate disruption. Only the president has the power to lead an effort on the scale and with the urgency we need to phase out fossil fuels and lead America, and the world, in a clean energy revolution.”
Notice the Sierra Club have replaced the not so cool terms ‘Global Warming’ and ‘Climate Change’ with ‘Climate Disruption’?
You can view their ad here. They are planning for a rally in DC on February 17.
And the weather forecast for Washington DC on February 17 is…
I trust the people who attend the rally will wear sufficiently warm clothing?
Forecast high 0.5 DegC, forecast low minus 3.8DegC - chance of Snow – definitely no ‘Global Warming’ happening in DC.
