Climate Commissioner and Ecoloon, Will Steffen, writes a typical alarmist column in today’s Australian – Clean up energy for sake of our grandchildren.
He bangs on about how Sweden has the “runs on the board” when comes to “the transition to clean energy.”
He goes onto say how the Swedes “have reduced their emissions of carbon dioxide by about 13 per cent, the best performance of any of the world's wealthy countries.”
What Steffen fails to note is that “depending on hydrological conditions, hydro and nuclear power account for some 90% to 92% of total annual Swedish generation, roughly one half each. The rest is mostly biomass, which comes in the form of wood residues from the forest industry.”
Clearly Steffen is talking through his hat.
Steffen then hits the “alarm” button and bangs on about the “extreme weather” the State of Victoria has experienced and naturally he blames the weather on CAGW.
The thing is, the renewable energy that Steffen advocates – namely Solar and Wind cost a bloody bomb to install and doesn't provide reliable 24/7 power like Hydro and Nuclear does (hint: that’s why the Swedes rely on Hydro and Nuclear).
So if Steffen really is sincere in helping our grandchildren, spend the dough on Nuclear and more Hydro energy just as the smart Swedes did in the eighties.
If we stay on the current path advocated by both major political parties of installing more Solar and Wind farms, the only certainty will be multi trillion dollar debts our grandchildren will be left to pay.
