This morning Yumi Stynes apologised for her tasteless comment about SAS Corporal Roberts-Smith, explaining it as a joke.
"I made a joke because how could anybody possibly be so perfect,'' she said on The Circle.
"What I did not estimate was how much my joke was not appreciated.
"I sort of intimated that maybe he was not very smart because how could you be that buff and spend that much time in the gym and be smart as well.
"So people have been a bit angry and I have been getting a lot of angry messages and I am really sorry."
Stynes said she meant no disrespect to Corporal Roberts-Smith.
So in Yumi’s world, no smart person ever worked out at GYM?
If she wants to go down the IQ route let’s start by talking about hers. Should she really be on TV?
Show some god-damn respect, Yumi, for the men and women who risk their lives so you can enjoy the freedom to say idiotic statements.
“People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf” - George Orwell
SAS Corporal Roberts-Smith is a national hero.
Neville nobody upstart Yumi Stynes is a national dumbass.
Their is a private facebook site where former serving military personnel can post their views. Many of these views are racist, sexist, homophobic and the type of material shared is of concern. A journalist gained access to this via a member who was concerned about it's content.
Why is the public silent about the bullying of women and ethnic groups in the military? We should be equally concerned about the views expressed within the military. If we are going to speak out without fear and with boldness we should also speak out about the military's destructive attitudes

Here’s some advice for Yumi Stynes and George Negus.
In Hong Kong in 1997 I chanced to meet a wire-muscled, hawk-nosed old Chinese gentleman half way down Victoria Peak . He ran a small shop. It was a steamy day and I asked for a Coke. He paused, looking me up and down with total prepossession, like a sheep not of his flock. Noticing my old polyester Australian army shirt he said with irrefutable logic: “You Australian! Australian army shirt, Australian army man.” I nodded. What he said next is etched into my memory forever . He looked at me unselfconsciously and intoned, (with perfect conviction): “Australians good: think first, act second!” I was blown away.
Americans might; ‘shoot first and ask questions later,’ but I reckon; ‘Think first, Act second’ should be our national motto. Living as an ex pat Aussie I have ever tried to live up to it, thankful to that Aussie who met the old Chinese gentleman before me. It’s sage advice.

And I take it that the Australian Elite Fighting force has intelligence tests that many appearing on TV would baulk at.
Great Orwell quote too, pity I ain't sleeping soundly no more.
